Azuñia Tequila Añejo

Azuñia Tequila Añejo is smooth, clean craft tequila with authentic flavor from the local terroir in every sip. It is the exclusive export of Agaveros Unidos and its second-generation, family-owned-and-operated Rancho Miravalle estate, which has created exceptional tequila for nearly 20 years. Made with 100% pure Weber Blue Agave grown in dedicated fields of the Jalisco lowlands, we harvest by hand and roast the organic agave in traditional clay hornos to ensure authenticity and depth of flavor. We then finish with a natural, open-air fermentation process and bottle on-site in small batches using a consistent process to deliver field-to-bottle quality.

Aged 18 months, Azuñia Tequila Añejo is rich with fruit and caramel essences. Savor its smooth buttery finish of vanilla, spice, chocolate and caramel.

December, 2011 - Sunny Garcia is named brand ambassador for Azuñia Tequila. Sunny is a world class surfer, world traveler, and connoisseur of fine food and drink.

February 2012 - NBA Hall of Famer, former sports broadcaster and successful business entrepreneur, Bill Walton becomes an equity partner with Azuñia Tequila.

This is a nice anejo if you can get it at the right price. To the nose it has nice cooked and raw agave with citrus notes and spices, followed by some fruit notes and then barrel notes such as chocolate and vanilla. In the mouth it has a nice array of notes again from the agave and the barrel, it is a bit spicy hot but not much to affect it while sipping. The color is a nice gold, with a medium body. Finish is a bit short but nice.

Nice deep color, coper with gold, very heavy body with tears coming down very slowly forming nice legs. Notes are very nice with caramel, citrus, some berries and some earthy characters. taste nice to the paler with sweet caramel and then in evolves showing its complexity with notes of citrus, earth and some other fruits. Price is excellent for the liquid, specially when in sale at 25, can get a better deal than that.

After tasting the blanco and reposado, I didn't have the highest of expectations for this anejo, but it was an extremely pleasant surprise. It has a very complex flavor and some very unique tastes that make it an excellent tequila.

Aroma: Agave, spice and fruit (mostly citrus, but a bit sweeter)
Initial Taste: A nice agave entry with the fruits coming through nicely (lemon and cherry). It almost tastes like agave mixed with cherry jolly rancher. Sweet, but with a little tart added. Very unique and impressive.
Body: A nice thick anejo body that allows all of the flavors to coat your tongue. Spices and wood are added into the mix...also a bit of what tastes like dark chocolate.
Finish: A nice smooth finish. No burn at all and just a nice bit of spice to remind you that it was there. Fairly short in duration.

The bottle itself doesn't scream out to you that a good juice is inside, but give it a try and I'm sure that you'll be pleasantly surprised. This is first class tequila. I've seen it for as much as $55 online, but I was able to get it at a closeout price at Total Beverage for $25 a bottle. If they still have it, go get some...for that price, it's a steal.

I was referred to this fine Tequila by a friend that wanted me to experience a truly fine Anejo Tequila. And he was right on with Azunia! It has a warm almost sweet mouth feel, with little or none of the usual tequila burn; with a delicate yet definitely agave flavor on the finish. This has fast become a favorite Anejo to consume and serve to my friends. I always get raves when it is first tasted. It is not hard to see their committment to quality and to producing a great tequila..."Bravo Azunia"!!

Bought this little gem this week for $55 at local store and had 4 oz last night in a 2 oz shoot glass neat of course. I love this anejo, as does my wife... which in itself is odd. It has a sweet caramel nose and setts on your tongue with ease. Very sweet with a slight smoke finish not oily, nothing heavy at all. Lacks the bold finish of other fine anejo's but this is not necessarily a bad thing. I n a word smooooooooooooth. If I had to complain about any one thing it would be the presentation. Blah bottle, they can do better. If you want to share a tequila with friends this will not disappoint.
