Qui Platinum Extra Añejo Tequila

Qui is the world's only 100% Blue Agave Platinum Extra-Añejo Tequila – a crystal clear Extra Añejo from the Highlands of Jalisco, which leaves you with the flavor, aroma, and character of an extra-aged Tequila but with an incredibly smooth finish.

Qui Extra Añejo Tequila is aged for three and half years in rare American Whiskey and French Bordeaux Barrels which allow Qui to obtain a light vanilla aroma, and a unique flavor. While most aged tequilas are bottled immediately after the aging process, Qui undergoes several steps after it has been aged in order to create the most perfect tequila in the world.

After the aging process, Qui Tequila undergoes a proprietary filtration and distillation process in order to create a finish that is incredibly smooth, creamy, and refined, while leaving behind the amazing flavor and aroma obtained from aging.

The name Qui is simple, subtle. It’s the "key" to the kingdom, to a certain level exclusivity and luxury. It’s for people in the know, who are the inside, but think outside the box. To this end, the marketing of Qui will be guerilla style- there will be no billboards or booze soaked promotional parties. The story of Qui and its great taste will spread quietly but effectively through word of mouth and social engagement.

I picked up a bottle of this last weekend as a birthday treat. I will say this is indeed the smoothest tequila I've ever sipped. Unfortunately it also happens to be the most boring. Filtering this juice 7 to 9 times after the aging process to remove color and then following it up with a third distillation robs it of much character. For a brief moment I get a few of my favorite tasting notes such as honey, chocolate and butterscotch. But they are gone as soon as they appear. The reason is the ultra dry finish that sucks all of the moisture from your mouth like many good red wines. I don't mind the dry finish so much on a good red, but I like a nice long finish on my agave juice filled with complexities. At 65 for the bottle I will pass.
