Pura Vida Gold Tequila

Triple distilled and lightly "rested" in high quality, American oak bourbon barrels, Pura Vida Gold is a Reposado. In Spanish, Reposado means "rested." Now we're not saying our Gold is lazy or lying down on the job or anything. In fact, just the opposite. Pura Vida Gold enlivens any occasion with a combination of superb smoothness and great taste.

But don't let the exceptional smoothness fool you.

Pura Vida Gold is the perfect tequila for those who appreciate a richer, more complex flavor. All the smoothness you want but with the pure tequila taste you crave.

Pura Vida, español for pure life or the good life, means living life to the fullest, pushing the limits of excitement, or, as far as your sense of adventure takes you.

Tasted 06/28/15 from a Riedel Tequila Glass.
Appearance: Pale straw color
Aroma: Pleasant aromas of agave, oak, vanilla, and a hint of mint.
Initial Taste: Very nice flavors of agave, oak, honey, vanilla and peppery spices all nicely balanced. It has a slight hint of cocoa from aging in bourbon barrels. Very smooth with no alcohol burn.
Body: Buttery mouth feel slow tears on the glass. The flavors are nicely blended.
Finish: Nice medium-length finish of sweet agave, oak and honey. It ends with a nice peppery fade with a hint of mint.
Price: RRP: $39.99
Presentation: Distinctive heavy blue bottle.

Score: 90(0.10) + 92(0.20) + 91(0.20) + 92(0.20) + 92(0.20) + 91(0.05) + 91(0.05) = 91.5 points

This is an excellent reposado for sipping. It is nicely aged in bourbon oak barrels which imparts a unique and balanced flavor without being too sweet.

I've had the blanco and anejo from this line and really enjoyed both of them...so my expectations are high. NOM 1414 is one of the best out there with lines like Nobleza, Gran Dovejo and Muchote. This one is a bit of a misnomer because they call it "Gold" tequila, which is usually reserved for mixtos, but this is a triple distilled, 100% agave reposado.

Aroma: A bit of a node like the blanco with a sweet agave, hints of vanilla, spice and a minty note.
Initial Taste: Agave and vanilla sweetness with a compliment of mint. A very interesting entry.
Body: Medium-oily body. Great mix of flavors. In addition to the initial flavors, it mixes in oak and a cinnamon like spice as well.
Finish: Medium length finish with a nice agave pepper kick. Oak and vanilla compliment it nicely for a well crafted and smooth finish.

This is on par with the blanco and anejo. A very good tequila at a nice price. I highly recommend the entire line. The triple distillation is done well and doesn't thin out to body too much. Another fine tequila from NOM 1414.
