Tequila 7 Leguas Reposado

Tequila 7 Leguas Reposado - 8 months in white oak barrels have made Reposado 7 Leguas (7 Leages Mellow) the only one in its class.

One of the oldest distilleries in Mexico, Casa Siete Leguas has more than fifty years of experience in the making of tequila by means of a traditional process delivering full-bodied, high-quality spirits of refined flavor. Tequila Siete Leguas is steeped in heritage and tradition, and consists of a Blanco, a Reposado, an Añejo and a D'Antaño, all made of 100% Tequilana Weber Agave. The D'Antaño is aged up to five years. This tequila carries the name of Pancho Villa's famous horse.

History: The Tequila Siete Leguas distillery was responsible for producing the "original" Patron Tequila brand, and brand rights were sold to St. Maarten Spirits, owners John Paul DeJoria (Paul Mitchell Hair Products) and Martin Crowley in 1989. As the brand grew, Tequila Siete Leguas was no longer able to keep up with production, and Patron built a new distillery and moved all production in 2002.

Tasted 05/22/15 from a Riedel Tequila Glass.
Appearance: Pale straw color
Aroma: Light fragrance of agave, oak, and caramel with notes of citrus and ginseng.
Initial Taste: Delicate flavors of sweet agave, oak, vanilla, and baking spices with a very mild herbaceous note.
Body: Very smooth and light buttery mouth feel with complex but nicely integrated flavors
Finish: A very smooth medium-length finish of sweet agave, vanilla, earthy wood and baking spices nicely distributed over the palate with no bitterness. A mild peppery agave kick concludes a very nice finish.
Price: $38.99 to $53.99 (RRP: $42.99)

This is a very well crafted reposado. Its mild, almost delicate, and well integrated flavors of sweet agave, oak, vanilla, baking spices and ginseng together with its smoothness make Siete Leguas an excellent sipping reposado.

An all-time great reposado. This tequila begins, ends, and revolves around a wonderful fruity sweetness, complemented by smooth spicy earthy agave notes giving it a near unparalleled balance and complexity. Aroma has citrus and some dill and/or mint to go with the 7 Leguas fruity sweet/roasted agave profile. Taste continues along the same narrative, expanding into flavours of soft wood, some caramel, and a perfect dash of peppery spice, while still retaining that earthy agave component up front. Finish is long and wide, great spice and nice heat, ending where it all began with notes of soft sweet cooked agave and a long-lingering spicy tingle. This is an endlessly drinkable tequila. One of the best.

After having the blanco and the anejo, I knew that I had to give this one a try. I was not at all disappointed with the result.

Aroma: A nice mix of vanilla and citrus with lighter hints of earthy agave and spice.
Initial Taste: Spicy agave with citrus and cinnamon aand hints of oak.
Body: Medium body. Lots of flavors and character as it sits on the palate: light citrus, caramel, oak and earth.
Finish: A nice long finish that has a great agave pepper bite along with brown spices and light oak.

This is a very good reposado. It has great balance between the agave flavors and the aging and uses them in a complimentary way. Although this would be a great mixer, I think that I'd stick to just sipping this one straight. It's an outstanding tequila. Well done 7 Leguas!

A very, very solid reposado. One of the most enjoyable reposados I've had in a while. Certainly a tequila that will find a lasting place on my shelf as a staple of my collection.

Aroma: Toffee, brown sugar, citrus peel, pepper.
Initial taste: Soft, sweet, with mild caramel and a "sugary" sensation (but not a sugary taste). A very welcoming first few moments!
Body: Very smooth and sensuous on the palate. Slightly oily. Develops beautifully in a burst of flavor.
Finish: Rounds out nicely and coats the mouth in wonderful flavors of fresh agave, spice, and citrus against a very mellow caramel background.

This tequila is a near theatrical experience. It introduces itself as one thing and then changes to another almost instantly in a crescendo of flavor. My one complaint would be that I wish it were a bit more oily as it has a semi-thin mouthfeel. Altogether, though, this is a beautifully put together classic reposado. I'm just mad I hadn't tried it sooner.
