While I feel like Patron is given harsh treatment from tequila lovers because of it's influence on people with the marketing, I also feel like it has it's place.

Patron across the board has very little "true" tequila flavors. It's almost as if it has been taken out to appeal to as broad an audience as possible. That's why I tell people that it can introduce people to tequila when all they previously know is the rancid flavor of the crap they drank in college. However, it will not have a the aging or character that smaller brands will have.

Patron Anejo fits all of those descriptions: Slight agave and carmel flavor, thin body and not a ton of overall flavor. The nice thing is that it mixes well and can be found just about anywhere in the US if you want to buy a 100% agave tequila. The bottle is also very nice.

It's a mediocre, mildly overpriced tequila.

I think this anejo gets a bit of a bad rap because of the heavy marketing/popularity of the brand. If you remove the label and just put this anejo aside others I think it would do much better among tequila lovers.

Anyway, this anejo lacks a bit of complexity at first blush I'll admit, but what I love about it is its versatility. Most anejos I have a very strong preference to how I like to drink it - on the rocks, straight up (most typical preference), or in a snifter/riedel - but with this I have no preference... my favorite way always seems to be however I'm drinking it at the time! Warmed up in a snifter really brings out some nice carmel and oaky notes, while on ice brings out a little bit of vanilla, and an earthy flavor where the agave is more present. Straight up it is is crisp and refreshing with a nice agave flavor with just the right amount of oak.

This doesn't cost much more than most good anejos so I'm not quite certain why people fuss over the price so much - I typically find the 1.75 l on sale for between $80-90 and for that price it is quite a steal! Marketing and hype aside, this anejo is a great choice!

Patron Añejo #28476
Tasted 15.06.2010 in a Riedel Tequila glass.
Slight hint of vanilla and oak, but there is a sort of synthetic smell to it, could it be the caramel?
Thin mouth feel, strong spirit burn and the Tequila itself has very little flavour too it.
I can pick up some slight agave, vanilla and caramel
Nothing special about this Añejo.
Simple and stylish bottle with a BIG natural cork stopper.
I guess if you are gonna use an añejo for coctails, this would work quite good due to the sweetness.

Tasted out of Double Ball glass. Patron anejo just didn't do it for me. I'm just not a fan of the Patron line. It's just my humble opinion.

Aroma: Simple agave and wood.
Initial Taste: On tip of tongue, there was bitterness.
Body: Agave, earth, wood, and caramel. but a little watery.
Finish: Of short duration with a small alcohol burn.

This tequila is ok. Someone brought it back from the USA for me because they heard it was "one of the good ones" (hello, Patron marketing machine).
Luckily, they only paid $43 for it at duty free. This bottle, however sells here in Ontario at the LCBO for $100. At that price, I would expect a MUCH better tequila.
Basically, this tequila just doesn't have a ton of flavour...it's pretty bland stuff. Not offensive, just not that good.
The bottle is the best thing about it.
