His Chinaco product (along with Don Julio 1942) forever changed what I thought tequila could taste like. The richness, complexity and full agave flavor while being utterly easy to drink made it a really special pour. So you can bet that I was excited when he came out with the T1 one line.

Price: $50-55/bottle

Aroma: Agave, ripe fruit, coffee, dark chocolate and spice. Very rich.

Initial Taste: Fruity agave with just a hint of vanilla sweetness and dark chocolate. Nice balance without being too sweet.

Body: A medium body, but a ton of flavor...almost too many to list: Agave, fruit, dark chocolate, coffee, spice... Complex, but well balanced.

Finish: A long and smoky finish with a nice spice kick and lots of bitter notes from the wood (dark chocolate and coffee).

This is really wonderful sipper. It would pair well with a dessert or a cigar. Lots of flavor, complexity and is oh so easy to drink. A really great pour for just about any occasion. Highly recommended...even with the fairly premium price.

On a shelf behind the bar this will certainly draw attention since there are no other tequila bottles that are similar. Unfortunately, the top and stopper are plastic rather glass - so they look a bit cheap in comparison to the bottle. T-1 is competitively priced for an añejo and anyone who wants to try a new añejo will be happy to add this to their "must try" list. It's up to you if it's on your "must buy" list. Let's take a look inside the bottle.
In a tasting glass, the color is a rich creamy brown - like maple syrup dissolved in water. There are thick lingering legs that almost refuse to drain to the liquid below. This is a nice clear tequila with medium viscosity. The first nose is sweet with strong caramel and vanilla overtones. Agitating the liquid brings additional aromas of agave and a hint of smoke. Holding the tequila in a closed mouth and then allowing it to slide down the front of your throat - there is a strong alcohol presence with subtle hints of hidden flavors. The second swallow, when properly aerated, will deliver a rich chocolate-infused cinnamon flavor that reminds me of really expensive extra añejos. I taste moderate barrel influence with a hint of honey, but spicy in a picante fashion - perhaps white pepper.
A little disappointed in the finish since it does not "mellow-out" too much. I would recommend orange slices sprinkled with pepper salt between sips. The flavor in general is quite pleasant but strong with alcohol from start to finish.

There is enough agave left to be legit, but not overly sweet by any stretch. In the taste, it loses most of the fruitiness and turns to the oak and charcoal with a slightly sweet undertone of cooked agave. Body is of medium weight with a little oiliness and coating. The finish is a nice balance of burn and lingering aftertaste of fruit and baking spices.

This is one of the nicer anejos to currently be had. It is well-balanced all around. Sells for a fair price for what you get, which is a quality anejo tequila for around $55. A somewhat phallic-shaped bottle that looks more like a wine decanter than a bottle of tequila, but it is attractive on display.
