Crystal clear medium amber color. Aroma: Very nice combination of aged sweet agave, oak, caramel, and a faint note of vanilla. Initial Taste: Smooth balanced combination of peppery agave, caramel, spice, and wood. It didn’t quite meet my expectations based on the aroma. Body: Medium-light body with nice tears in the glass. It had a light buttery mouthfeel, but the flavors were somewhat muted. Finish: Medium-long spicey agave finish with a mild alcohol burn resulting in a slightly numbing finish. Enjoyability: Slightly harsh due to the mild alcohol burn. Presentation: An antique looking local hand blown artisanal glass bottle. (92) This is a nice anejo with a medium-light body and subtle flavors that were not too sweet. Sampled from a 6oz shot glass, neat. Color is light amber, leaves fast legs, minimal tears. NOM-1079 has some of my favorite tequila brands and that is why I did not hesitate to buy. The bottle is a liability at best, this is a marketing gig and they blew it, nothing about the bottle sets it apart. The nose is light, agave/caramel/butterscotch and a minimal floral wiff. Let this tequila breath for a bit, the nose will subtly change in character. Medium mouth feel, complex, some whiskey comes through, holds very well. Finish is a bit muted, very smooth, minimal heat but numbing will slowly build on the tongue and gums if you drink uninterrupted. It dissipates quickly leaving an oak tinge. There is a lot going on with every sip, its a work of art that you taste. Price maybe the only draw back. The more I have the better I like it. Its underwhelming at first but grows on you... The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, odd but true. This anejo is really good. I prefer the anejo over the reposado of this line. Aroma: Caramel, wood, and spices. Initial Taste: Upon entry, there's an oily mouth feel. It's sweet with no bitterness. I tried this tequila at Pueblo Chico Cantina in El Dorado Hills and tasted it in a glass similar to a snifter. With a golden color, this tequila has intense floral and fruity aromas. Other aromas include mild earth, caramel, and spice with a hint of vanilla. The tequila has a medium to heavy mouth feel and on the first sip there is a low level of sweetness with no bitterness. Intense floral flavors and moderate to intense agave are followed by moderate fruit. Mild to moderate notes of earth, vanilla, and wood are also present with a hint of caramel.
