We can talk about all of the different flavors a "purist" may distinguish, but that's not me. I tried the Reposado and thought it was good to be mixed because it wasn't smooth enough for me to drink straight. For the little cost of $45 before taxes, this El Mayor Anejo was well worth a try. Unlike many, I like my Tequila on the rocks and let it breath for a minute. I was shocked at the smoothness for a Anejo for less than $100. It was very smooth going down with no alcohol burn. The after taste was SO smooth and pleasant my glass which holds two shots was gone in a flash. I was getting tired of higher cost Anejo's that had a very distinctive pepper after taste.
I waited until my third bottle was history to put this review out there to make sure I wanted to give it my blessings. As I finish off my second glass........wish you were here :) Until I attend my next Tequila Tasting Party, this Bad Boy in my #1.

At $40, it was well worth the cost. i've spent twice the money and felt let down. The initial nose was very sensual and pleasing with notes of carmel and butterscotch. Very smooth going down with no alcohol burn. There mentioning of pepper is over stated and barely noticed. This one is at the top of my list as a favorite. DAMN, I love the aroma !

The reviews seemed mixed and the price seemed a bit high until I found it for $26 at Total Beverage (instead of around $45 like it is most places).

Aroma: A great agave/caramel/vanilla nose.
Initial taste: Pleasant agave and caramel. Not as sweet as the nose might suggest.
Body: A great, dark color and thick body. Some spice notes and plenty of wood and pepper come through in the body as well.
Finish: A nice heated and spicy finish to compliment the anejo sweetness. Maybe a bit more alcohol burn than I want from an anejo.

I can see why the reviews are mixed. Had I paid $45 for this bottle, I would have felt mixed about it as well. However, for $26 (or even the $30-35 range), this is a good value anejo that should please a wide variety of people. The bottle looks nice and is a really nice heavy quality.

The initial taste carries on with the orange and caramel but adds notes of something sage like. The body is robust and extremely pleasant and the finish is long and mellow. All in all this is a very good product and has moved up my list. I am holding onto the last couple of glasses not wanting it to leave the cupboard.

It was inexpensive and very surprisingly good. My friends and I enjoyed it a lot. Have tried more expensive tequilas and always come back to El Mayor anejo. I drink it chilled from the freezer. If there was a category for best buy, I would give this tequila 100.

It has a nice body with hints of carmel and some butter. However, judging from color I had expected more, as from a tequila such as El Gran Jubileo Extra Anejo, my favorite. Still for the price El Mayor will always be on my self for friends. There is some initial heat at first and at the end, but nothing that would be considered out of the ordinary. A good tequila to try whether on a budget or out for a sip of a good tequila.

Sampled from a 6 oz shot glass. The bottle is attractive, thick glass with a tight cork top. Color is a beautiful caramel, some legs, no tears. Nose is agave for the most part, maybe a hint of caramel/vanilla, I was expecting more based on the color... Body is thick in the mouth settles easily on the tongue but not much presence. Muted finish, minimal heat that builds just a bit. Leaves a alcohol numbing after an oz or two. I doubt I'd buy again.

It had a peppery entry with hints of vanilla, and a decent agave presence. It also had quite a bite - almost more like a silver than an anejo, which I kind of enjoyed because it still had elements of an anejo.

Overall I think this is an incredible value as I saw a bottle of this for roughly $35. For that price you'd have a hard time finding a better anejo. Not my favorite, but a great value I wouldn't hesitate to have again.

For the price (normally around $40) you really can't beat it. We normally sip it out of a double ball glass and this has to be one of the smoothest anejo's in it's price range. There is a sweet spicy flavor to the initial taste with an oaky finish and very little alcohol burn. Not a lot of Agave flavor but enough to notice, this is probably why all of my friends seem to like it. I always keep a bottle on the shelf.

It is something that I can sip on on for the price that is hard to beat. It is not my favorite tequila by any means but is still excellent in my opinion. It is very smooth from the aging but I did not detect much agave flavor. I also tasted oak but there was something different about it then other anejos I have tasted. It is a tequila I look forward to having again especially at the price.

Honestly, not the best anejo I've ever tried. But not the worst either. If I saw this one at a bar, I'd have no problem ordering it and enjoying it, but I don't think I'd buy a bottle of it. It seems from their website (which is very well done and informative) that they take alot of pride in their product. I guess based on that, I was expecting a better tasting product.

Aroma: Caramel and alcohol, it's that simple.
Initial Taste: A thin mouth feel. A sweet, yet slightly bitter entry, with an initial taste of caramel.
Body: A cooked agave body, with hints of wood and earth.
Finish: A dry, slightly heated finish of medium duration with a caramel lingering.

It had a lot of alcohol burn, I tried it in a wine glass very similar to a tequila glass, then I put it in a wider shorter glass and it was much better, I guess it needed to breathe more. It has a nice amber color, slight nose of caramel but also harsh burnt smell. The mouth as I said before burns and the finish just isn't very good. I would rate the tequila C-. Don't waste you time. :(
