I had avoided Cabo Wabo for a long time because of its initial over the top marketing and celebrity association. However, I finally tried it and was very impressed. Some people love it some people hate it. Only one way to find out... Aroma: Light Agave with vanilla and a bit of alcohol. Initial Taste: Agave vanilla and a bit of citrus. A very nice entry. Body: Light body for an anejo. Nice mixture of vanilla, agave and fruit. A slight bit of oak compliments it as well. Finish: A very basic finish. Short duration, no spice linger...just a basic feeling and taste on the tongue of the previously mentioned flavors. Pleasant, but not noteworthy. The start is better than the finish. The flavors are complex and taste very good. The finish left something to be desired. As far as tequilas that you'll find in every store go...this one is pretty darn good. It's not on the top shelf, but it's something that you can happily and proudly serves guests as a dessert tequila, straight or mixed. Tasted of a subtle cinnamon, spice, moderate agave presence, earthiness, and a spicy mid-to-long finish. At this price point there are many others I'd prefer. It wasn't because I really liked it; it was just OK, it was because I thought there was a taint in the tequila and I made them open another bottle and let me try it again!? There was something in the aftertaste that I noted in this one that was sweet and wine like in quality, sort of the flavor you get from something that is aged in a sherry cask. Has anybody else had that experience. I purchased 1.5 ounces of this tequila at Zocalo in Sacramento, CA for $10 and tasted it out of a snifter. With a yellow golden color, this tequila has intense aromas of floral and earth. Other aromas include moderate fruit and spice also, mild vanilla and hints of caramel and smoke. The tequila has a thin oily mouth feel and the first sip is sweet with mild bitterness. Cabo Wabo Anejo has numerous arrays of flavors due to its 1 to 5 years of aging. Intense flavors of earth are followed by moderate notes of agave, spice, and smoke. With a medium-to-short duration of flavor, tastes of mild chemicals, fruit, floral, and caramel with a hint of vanilla bring this tequila to a numbing finish.
