Was in Calgary on Business and I searched the internet for reviews on a decent Mexican place and I can up with Anejo. The reviews I read where mixed, but decided to take the plunge and go with an open mind. It only takes one thing to turn dining out into a negative experience. The place was busy and the only tables available where not really conducive to a meal more like a lounge area to drink and chat, so we opted for seats at the bar and for me I think it was the best choice as I am a Tequila Nerd and I think these guys may just have the title for biggest Tequila selection in a Bar/Restaurant in Canada(but don't quote me on that one)I am guessing about 150 brands/ages.(they had the blanco/Repo/Anejo of allot of brands of 100% agave) I was also impressed by their Margarita even though I did not taste is. They told me they made their house Margarita with Lime/Lemon juice, agave nectar, Cazadores blanco, and triple sec. Just like I make at home minus the Triple sec and I usually use a slightly better tequila but at least they are using a 100% agave tequila in their margs and that’s a hard thing to find in Canada. To eat I had the Tortilla soup which was hot and tastie, and I ordered a Taco Trio of Beef short ribs, Adobe pork and Crispy Red snapper. I liked the snapper the best. Not bad at all but they used flour shells, corn would have been a nice option and chopped cilantro on them would have been better than the raw sprig on top so the flavor was in every bite. Came with three salsas one of which was a Pico de gallo(bonus). One of my dinner companions also had table side mixed Guacamole, another nice addition. It was good and fresh but a little bland IMHO. Some more spices and extra lime juice would have tuned it to my taste buds, and maybe caramelized onion. The bar tenders had a decent knowledgeable on Tequila and had a keen interest in the spirit. Franz was great to talk to and graciously made recommendations on his favourites. We had a good time, the staff at the bar where attentive and engaging; the food was fresh and tastie and they have the biggest selection of Tequila in a Bar I have seen in Canada, and they make a pure margarita. The Tequila prices are reasonable for 100% agave in Canada. If I find myself In Calgary again Anejo will be on my dining list again. Next time I think I will try the Molcajete, that looked interesting.

they have an unseen collection for belgian (or to my knowledge european) standards.

normally they carry the line blanco-reposado-añejo for their products which sometimes makes for a nice tasting experience.

also you get decent information, they even have three books that give you adequate information on their products.

sure, it's not that cheap, but as i put it before, it's a real treat in a country where it's hard to come by a decent bottle of tequila!!

thumbs up!!

I have been living in Auckland for two years now and have just been WAITING for a decent Mexican Restaurant. I think I have finally found it in Dos Amigos. My partner and I have eaten there twice in the short time we have known about the place. It was formerly El Centro, but has been re-opened under new owners as Dos Amigos since April 2010. And what they have created with their menu is great! We've had taquitos, a chorizo and spinach dish, ribs with kumara wedges, a chicken burrito, chimichongas, and tamales. Desserts we've tried were fried ice cream and a dark chocolate tort with a hint of chili. Everything we've had was wonderful. Prices are roughly on par for New Zealand. What gets me is that the value of the food is better than what I have gotten from other Mexican places here.
They have a decent selection of tequila. Not huge, but for New Zealand, definitely more than you see almost anywhere else. There doesn't seem to be a huge knowledge of tequilas, but I think this will be changing. :-) Margaritas are tasty though, with a cadillac marg served with the grand marnier poured into the glass at your table.
The service was quite good, with attentive and friendly staff who greet you in Spanish to create a fun atmosphere. Even the owner will stand out front with a sombrero to greet people. Staff in general know their food menu quite well too.
Ambiance? You can't ask for a better place to be than on the main street in Mission Bay, which is right on the beach. It's a great locale.
I have come to like the place enough that I recently got a job there, trying to help develop Dos Amigo's tequila identity, as a place to come for good Mexican food AND tequila. Call me biased, but it's because of the food and tequila that made me want to be a part of this place. So keep an eye out, the tequila focus will be improving, and it'll be something to look forward to!
At the very least, if you're looking for the best Mexican food in Auckland, you should stop by this place, and don't forget some tequila.

It is only open for dinner starting at 4pm. By far the best tequila selection I found in Amsterdam, running around 100 varieties. The staff had a pretty good knowledge of tequilas. The two brothers who own the bar were very nice and definitely knew their stuff. They were behind the release of their own private label tequila, Los Pilones, only sold there in Amsterdam to my knowledge.
The food was wonderful. We found many items on the menu quite enjoyable. It did have a little bit of a twist on some things, but it worked. We found ourselves there quite often. Check out the choriqueso, an appetizer consisting of melted cheese with chorizo sevred with fresh hot tortillas. Wonderful!! The price was good as well, quite reasonable for the area.
Every time I went to this place it was busy. Reservations are definitely recommended. I saw just as many locals there as I did tourists. It always had a good ambiance about it, with the Mayan and Aztec painted walls and metal stamped pillars. It just really worked.
While I was in Amsterdam they also opened a new location in the Jordaan district. Check this one out too if you get the chance. They had a little different tequila selection, with the same great food and just as nice ambiance, with a little lighter feel. Both locations are small so they fill up quick.
If you are anywhere near Amsterdam and need a tequila fix, this place is a must, even if just for a quick bite. One of my favorite places.

The Mexican Cafe is probably the best tequila bar you will find in Auckland, possibly New Zealand. They have around 80 or so tequilas, and I find that they do get new ones in periodically. Most places here have 1800 as their top shelf, so to see such a selection here is quite impressive.
The bar staff have a good general knowledge and there are a couple guys who take the time to taste stuff so they know what they're talking about. But I'm not sure I would say everyone does. They are pretty good guys though and the mixed cocktails are great. Stop by for Happy Hour and good drinks.
The food is a little yet to be desired. It's decent at best. It has been inconsistent for us. Some days are better than others. But for someone from Southern California, it's not quite up to par. The prices aren't too bad for here in New Zealand. And it is worth noting that they do not tac on the typical surcharge (usually around 15%) that everyone else does on statutory holidays.
The ambiance is pretty cool though, old style los muertos skeletons, mexican/latin music playing, and if you come on a weekend night live DJs are pumping up the place as some tables are cleared for salsa dancing. It's usually pretty busy for lunch, happy hour and dinner, despite having ok food, the drinks must pull people in. Though any good Mexican food here is hard to come by.
By far, if you're looking for a tequila bar down under, come check this place out. They have a location in Christchurch that I understand has a different selection, but I have yet to go there.

We have been to this restaurant about 3 or 4 times. The first time was to meet some local forum members and have dinner and a few drinks. This was our first stop on a planned Mexican bar crawl but by the end of the night we all agreed should have just stayed at Dos Amigos. Before I get on to some detail let me preface the selection rating with a note: Bars/restaurants in Ontario have to purchase all their liquor from the LCBO and there isn't usually a lot of choice on the shelves. So to see approximately 40 different tequilas and allot of them 100% thats pretty decent.

The building is simple and the decor a mix of tradition Mexican and what I call tourista Mexican. I love the wax candles by the bar. The patio is very nice on a cool summers night.
We usually start with Guacamole and chips, both very authentic and tastie. No bagged nacho chips here.(if they are I want to know where they get them) We usually share the Parrillada Mixta which every time we have it brings me back to fond memories of one of our trips where El Agave/Industrializadora Integral del Agave treated us to dinner at their restaurant after a distillery tour. When we pulled up in our bus there was an open pit bar-b-q where they where roasting chicken, beef, pork, and chorizo sausage. Smelt great and tasted even better. The Parrillada Mixta brings me back every time. Another Favorite appetizer that we enjoy is Queso Fundido, which is simple melted cheese and chorizo sausage; cut it up and slide it into some nice soft tortillas... ummm uhmm good. We do need to expand and taste other things on the Menu but we have found favorites in the first things we have tried. Salud to Enrique.

Staff is pleasant and Mauricio who mans the bar is very knowledgeable with his tequilas and is committed to bring in as many 100% agave products as the LCBO puts on it shelves. Have not tasted the Margs but others on our first time there did and it appeared they enjoyed them.;)

This is our home away from Mexico and we need to return soon.

The restaurant is not very noticable from the outside, but once you get inside, it has a nice and casual Southwestern decor. There is a long bar with what seemed liked hunderds of tequila bottles on the wall. I was fortunate enough to try a shot of Jose Cuervo Collecion, which was wonderful. The food has a Southwestern flair and was very good. I would recommend stopping in for a drink and food while you are in London.

The retaurant is nicely decorated in a Mexican theme, but not over done. You can sit at the bar and admire over 100 tequilas. The bartender and owner are from Mexico and are very friendly, plus they know their Tequila and Mexican food. I ate some of the best tacos I have ever had and tried three tequilas that I had never tasted before. I highly recommend this restaurant to any traveler or local for that matter. Agave has a great atmosphere, great food and an excellent selection of Tequila.
